"If only someone could stop talking and do something instead."

Here's what I'm thinking.

Instead of extended silences between my posts, I'll try every weekday morning to throw together a few links, thoughts and videos to freshen this space, give some attention to the RI forum and make me feel like I'm not such a bad blogger. (And thanks again to Chris for the idea.)

And so:

Keep an eye on Kosovo. US-sponsored "unilateral independence" looms for the Balkan Route's distribution hub of Afghan heroin. The purpose of "failed states" is to create the conditions for criminal windfall, and the Russian and American standoff on Kosovo resembles a turf-war between New York and New Jersey families.

US corporations finance Colombian terror and evade prosecution

The mystery of Norway's Hessdalen Lights has reportedly been "solved." Scientists have concluded "the phenomenon is not UFO-related" (that is, they're not nuts-and-bolts vehicles), but are "luminous balls containing some form of energy" (that is, we don't know what they are).

"In the summer of 1963 comedian Red Skelton was loafing alone on a beach in California when, according to what he later told reporter Dick Kleiner (Newspaper Enterprise Association), he lapsed into a semitrance for about an hour. Upon recovering full consciousness, he discovered a terrifying message written in his own hand in the notebook he always carried with him. He doesn't remember writing it or even thinking the words. The message was, 'President Kennedy will be killed in November.'" - John Keel, Operation Trojan Horse

Jeff,
I like the idea of a daily shot
of your wit and wisdom. Who would
have thought Red Skeleton could be
tied to the death of JFK in any
shape, way, or form? Have you heard
that Bush has issued a directive
that, for all intents and purposes,
makes it a crime with the possibility
of asset forfeiture to protest
against the war?

I liked the clip. I agree about the need for action. Maybe life is a big lesson, its the reason I hold out hope of a reason to be spiritual.

I always wondered about Red's closing remarks at the end of all his shows. The funny man seemed to me to go to a place that was exceptional from everything else on TV. Precogs never come back the same.

a piece of film worthy of any Dylan quote! even though education is a form of purposeful conditioning, so too, our every unintentional move conditions the young and robs the family of the privelege of pure abstract thought; we are doomed to live with our actions.
we are traumatized by some catalyst, and given over to some verval reverie. after a period of meditation, we shed the need for words altogether, and we adress the ineffable directly through action. by that point, a new youth has arrived, a reminder from the universe that history is subjective, but it`s too late. we desperately throw a punch at objectivity and traumatize the next generation.
BTW, the last post was a taste of the old Jeff brilliance. to me that Aryan somebody quote was spot-on. you really must remember, a lot of "conspiracy theory" is a remnant of the old John Birchers, personified by the scions of the National Leadership Coalition. these are the China Cowboys, the Moonie loving men who started the Korean CIA and did Iran-Contra.
Bankers and so-called `globalists` may be a part of the problem, but there is an analogy between the crude reductionism of the NWO obsession and the phenemenologico-anthropomorphism of physicalist UFO discourse, i think.

that is to say, "verbal reverie." also, those scions of Birchism, i.e., Tim Lahaye, may have started the National Leadership Council, rather than Coalition. either way, you get my drift.

We live in a world where the ethics of maxima is producing a 'runaway' condition in the system.

The ethics of maxima will be replaced with the ethics of optima, and the question becomes; will we find the grace to participate, or will the larger system find balance without us?

What about Gaviotas?

Gaviotas: A Village to Reinvent the World by Alan Weisman (Paperback - Dec 1, 1999)

In the early 1970s, a unique community was founded in the los llanos region of Colombia. Located north of the Amazon rain forest, this region is an expansive savannah, sparsely populated and generally considered uninhabitable. Gaviotas originated out of the belief that the current state of urban expansion and poverty and the continued depletion of natural nonrenewable resources could not be sustained and that the future required people to learn how to live in harsh, inhospitable environments and to do so in an ecologically sound and sustainable manner. Journalist Weisman tells the story of a remarkable and diverse group of individuals (engineers, biologists, botanists, agriculturists, sociologists, musicians, artists, doctors, teachers, and students) who helped the village evolve into a very real, socially viable, and self-sufficient community for the future. The people of Gaviotas today produce innovative technologies (solar collectors, irrigation systems, windmills, and hydroponic gardens) that use the environment without depleting or destroying it. While some of their creative endeavors have not succeeded, even the failures tend to spawn ideas for future successes. Weisman does a fine job of detailing Gaviotas's evolution and placing it within the larger global historical context. The story he presents is wonderful testament to human creativity, commitment, and effort toward building a socially viable and environmentally sustainable future.

The commodity ecology is a form to deal with some of the limitations on expansion and reproduction that Gaviotas experienced, in its failed attempt to move out of its home territory and seed itself. Commodity ecology would establish in each watershed a test plot or area for working through the very specific interrelationships that would optimize for that area.

Television, internet, radio, DVD's, audio cassettes, newspapers, magazines, books, movies, all of it is talk, talk, talk. When we age past sixty the talking becomes redundant. Common sense dictates that talking can ignite a forest fire or like Smokey the Bear prevent one. Individuals under the age of sixty tend to attempt igniting forest fires more often in their lives. Not everybody over sixty has the ability to control his or her tongue. Loss of control of what one says and means happens more often with younger individuals in relationships and the like though. I cannot believe that the rage of younger adults contributes to a better future. Finger pointing, gossiping, back stabbing, and labeling others is not an activity that is limited to old women.

In the video the adult is very depressed. He's not in his right mind. If he was he'd probably do more listening to the boy than talking to himself in front of the boy. He would have taken advantage of the time spent together in the woods with the boy having fun and teaching him adult things that would benefit the boy's life. Not rambling on as an ass alone in the Milky Way. It is too bad the media portrays men as stumbling, demented child kings. This only does us a disservice when we come home after a long hard day at work if we are employed. It is as if the media is at war with us.

Serving this man is incompetent agenda has its rewards. It has a tendency to haunt the ones that propagate it and eventually victimizes the ones that victimize others as a result of it.

That's not quite it. He's a Holy Fool. In the course of the film he saves the world, but he has to become mad in the eyes of the world to do it. But he's sane as Hell.

Just what the world needs.....another Martyr. It makes the Vatican happy.

The fact of the matter is, we will not survive in our present form, so what does it matter, anyway (saving the world, I mean)? We have no more in common with the single-celled organisms from which we evolved than the creatures, Mecha, or otherwise we will become if calamity doesn't extinguish us first.

Think how silly and narcissistic we are to portend our existence will mean much of anything to anyone or anything several million years into the future. As if that Capital Spending Process Project at work means anything at all in the scheme of things, yet so much angst, heartache and, ultimately, emotional and mental energy is spent wringing in out.

It's a crazy fuckin asylum when you step back and look at it objectively, isn't it? And we're trapped....I don't care what the most well-intentioned optimists may say...we're trapped, and that doesn't preclude them...the optimists just have a fondness for rose-colored glasses.

The old man in the video could see clearly the dysfunctional constraints, yet he attacked Little Man when Little Man caught him by surprise, proving, at least metaphorically, that even though the critical thinkers may be cognizant of the noose, they still can't but help pull it tighter because they are as much contributors to the vicious cycle as they are products of it.

It's interesting that you chose Little Man to make a point, Jeff, considering Omni was harping on it so much recently....or maybe Omni was talking of another Little Man.
